VENCorp selects Principal Toolbox for project and portfolio management

VENCorp selects Principal Toolbox for Enterprise Project Management
Seeks stronger governance of IT projects through the consistent application of the VENCorp project management process

VENCorp (Victorian Energy Networks Corporation) has chosen the Principal Toolbox as its Enterprise Project Management system.

VENCorp aims to achieve the most reliable and efficient supply of energy for the benefit of the Victorian community. It is a State Government-owned entity and plays a pivotal role within Victoria's privatised energy sector which consists of a broad range of corporate, regulatory and statutory stakeholders.

A year ago, VENCorp created and implemented an organisation wide IT project management process that includes standard reporting and approval points. However, ensuring consistent use of the process across all projects remained a challenge, and the PMO does not have sufficient resources to devote to compliance activities.

Earlier this year VENCorp embarked on a selection process for a project management system. The key objective was to ensure consistent application of the project management process on all IT projects. Other requirements were to support the project selection and prioritisation process, and get a better picture of resource utilisation across the department.

After a Proof of Concept trial, VENCorp chose the Principal Toolbox as it met all the stated requirements, and in addition provided better visibility of project performance with the graphical project dashboard capability.

About VENCorp

VENCorp plays a pivotal role in the delivery of a secure supply of electricity and gas for all Victorians. VENCorp is the major State Government owned entity within Victoria's privatised energy sector and reports to the Minister directly responsible for the energy industry. It was established on December 11, 1997 and is a central component of Victoria's gas and electricity industries. The organisation is funded by the industry on a cost recovery basis and plays an important part in delivering the benefits of energy industry reform.

From 1 July 2009 VENCorp's functions and people are to become part of a new organisation - the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO)- which will provide operational, market and planning services to the electricity and gas industries nationally.
